SHOW DESCRIPTION Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp, the vh1 Classic television show, combines the best that music has to offer. Over the course of one week, with production running from May 10th to May 15th, five one hour long episodes will be shot in Los Angeles documenting the highs and lows of what the campers go through in their attempt to live our their fantasy of being a rock star.
Accomplished musicians who are there to lend their expertise, as “Camp Counselors” to the aspiring musicians will lead three bands. These Counselors Duff McKagan (Guns n’ Roses, Velvet Revolver), Matt Sorum (Guns n’ Roses, Velvet Revolver) and Mark Hudson (Grammy winning producer of Aerosmith) will each be in charge of one five-piece band. They will mold them in every area possible, from stage presence, songwriting, recording, and of course performance. But, perhaps most importantly they will take five strangers and turn them into a band!
Each one-hour episode will highlight all of the bands. We will watch as the bands work on their material and learn about themselves. Each band will have to learn 4 cover songs and write an original as well. There will be three live performances over the course of the week. An opening night show, a surprise acoustic gig in the middle of the week, and a closing night “battle of the bands” style performance where each band will back Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame and former member of Van Halen, Sammy Hagar. The bands will also write and record an original song and of course have a chance to live like a rock star, if only for a week.
In addition to the role the counselors play, there will be a revolving door of guest stars. These guests will spend time with each of the three bands, giving them pointers and helping them work on any number of issues the bands face. The guest stars themselves will make up a “super-group” that will be the encore performance of the series and the best band will have their shot to join the “super-group” on stage for a once-in-a-lifetime jam. Each guest star will appear in one episode, which is their initial appearance, and in the finale episode during the performance.
