Born in South Korea, Joel was adopted at a young age and moved to the southwest suburbs of Chicago. Both homeschooled and evangelical, Joel has read the bible literally dozens of times, and has no idea where the state of Oregon is on a map.

Joel is currently developing a half hour comedy with JAX Media called BIRTHRIGHT, loosely based on his own life experiences. He is attached to write, star and co-executive produce the project. You can read more here.
As a comedian he has performed at numerous comedy clubs, bar basements and festivals all across the country and abroad. He has been featured at The Bridgetown Comedy Festival, RIOT LA, The Brooklyn Comedy Festival, The New York Comedy Festival, and the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal where he performed as one of the New Faces of Comedy in 2016.
Wildly, Joel is a playwright as well. His world premiere collaboration with The New Colony, Kate and Sam Are Not Breaking Up, opened in fall of 2013 in Chicago to critical acclaim and garnered a non-equity Jeff Award nomination for Best New Work. The play has been had both East and West Coast premieres, a Canadian production, and is currently available to purchase via Chicago Dramaworks.
